Willie passed peacefully away at his residence in St. John's on Thursday, February 25th while in the loving care of Vira Bessey and Gerry Dillon. During his lengthy stay with Vira & Gerry, Willie experienced being cherished and loved at all times. He was very much an important part of their family and was always included in family functions. We are truly thankful for having them in his life.
He was predeceased by his parents; Henry and Emily (nee Murphy) Dakin, Siblings: Edmund (Nellie) Dakins, ON, Michael (Catherine) Dakins, NL, Henry (Marg) Dakins, NL, Norma (Jerome) Nolan, NL and Florence (Bill) Walsh, NL, brothers- in-law: Harry Cooke, Florida, Ruby Smilestein, ON and Leo Hickey, NL.
Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are his brother Fred (Stella) Dakins, NL and sisters: Imelda, NL, Marge Smilestein, ON and Mary Cooke, Florida, also a large number of treasured nieces and nephews.
We wish to express our thanks to Denise Cahill, NP, and other medical staff who provided the much needed help for Willie at this difficult time. With much gratitude, we thank Fr. Steve Courtney for his spiritual guidance to Willie as he prepared for this home journey.
Due to the current Covid-19 Restrictions, cremation has taken place. The funeral service will be private and by invitation only. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady Of Mount Carmel Church on Tuesday, April 20, 2021 at 11:00 am with interment to follow at Our Lady Of Mount Carmel Cemetery. If so desired, donations in Willie’s honour may be made to a food bank in your area.
