Walter LaCour Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Walter LaCour of Holyrood at St. Clare's Hospital on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at the age of 83. He was surrounded by the love and support of his family.

Walter's life was defined by devotion—to his family, his friends and the values that guided him throughout his years. A man of quiet strength, unwavering kindness, and genuine humility, he touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Walter was predeceased by his parents; Ted and Ellen LaCour; his sister, Helen Dalton, parents-in-law; Joe and Margaret Moore, brothers-in-law: Fred Dalton, Bill Flynn and Norm Noseworthy, sister-in-law, Elizabeth LaCour and nephew, Bill Costello.

Left with a broken heart but countless cherished memories is his beloved wife, Shirley, his partner, best friend and the love of his life for more than 60 years. Together they built a life rich in love, loyalty, laughter and family.

Also left to mourn, while celebrating a life filled with love and treasured memories, are his sons; Yvon (Genevieve) and Dan (Denise), his daughter, Kelly (Munden), cherished grandchildren: Emily (Adam), Julian (Morgane), Brandon (Sarah), Hannah (Devin), Lauren (Carter), Aidan and Callum; and his treasured great-grandson, Theo, who brought him immense pride and joy.

Walter also leaves behind his twin brother, Dec (Marg), brothers; Edward (Joan) and Rick (Trudy), sisters; Martina Flynn and Marie Noseworthy, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. He shared a particularly special bond with his sisters-in-law; Dot Moore and Trudy Hurdle, Trudy's husband John, Shirley's brother Joe Moore, and Walter’s  nieces: Sharon (Ray), Betty Ann and Rhea.

Walter loved life and filled it with countless hobbies and passions. Music was one of his favourite pastimes and he loved to sing and play. He treasured the many groups he performed with over the years. He had a fascination with classic cars and loved his ‘52 Buick and 1930’s Model A. He was also a talented craftsman with a passion for woodworking and creating projects in his workshop.  He loved hard work and was always happy when he was busy and tackling a new endeavour. Yet, his greatest joy was always spending time with the people he loved. Family was the centre of his world, and what he valued most.

Wherever life took him—from Holyrood to Wabush, Labrador, to Largo, Florida and beyond—Walter formed lasting friendships. With his warm personality, easy manner, and genuine interest in others, he had a remarkable gift for building connections that endured for decades.

Walter's legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched, the memories he created, and the love he shared so generously. Through his example, he taught the importance of kindness, hard work, loyalty, and gratitude. His life was a testament to the strength of family, the value of friendship, and the enduring love he and Shirley shared throughout their life together.
