Shawn O'Leary

We are heartbroken to announce the passing of Shawn O’Leary, 60, of Avondale on September 28, 2024.

He was predeceased by his parents: John Sr. and Helen O’Leary. Leaving to mourn are his cherished daughters: Shaunna (Murray Corbett) and Hannah (Riley Kenny) and their mother Rhonda O’Leary, precious grandchildren: Kaylee, Kaia and Eli, brothers: Junnie (Kym), Dwayne (Debbie), Clyde (Brenda) and Dale (Pauline), sister in-law Joanne McCarthy, special cousins Jim and Wayne, uncle Kevin Parsley, Erin Matthews, nieces, nephews and a large circle of friends and coworkers. Shawn’s generosity and kindness knew no bounds. He had a quiet demeanor and communicated his feelings with actions, through his kindness and generosity.

Shawn took great pride in his daughter’s accomplishments, especially when he earned the title of Poppy Shawn. He gave his all no matter what he did, he loved hard and worked hard. He really valued his relationships and was the kind of friend that everyone seeks to have. Shawn was a very proud member of the Iron Workers Local 764 and Boilermakers Local 203 and absolutely loved working within his trade. He was very well respected and was known for his work ethic and knowledge within his field. Shawn’s death leaves a profound void in the hearts of his family, but his memory will live on through the lives that he loved. 

Resting at Dunphy’s Funeral Home, Holyrood. The family will receive visitors on Tuesday, October 1st from 2:00 pm – 8:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Assumption Catholic Church, Avondale on Wednesday, October 2nd, 2024 at 10:30 am with cremation to follow. For those unable to attend, the service will be live streamed with the link available below. 

Inurnment will be held at Assumption Cemetery, Avondale on Thursday, October 3rd, 2024 at 1:00 pm.

A sincere thank you to Dr. Armstrong, Dr. Fowler, Dr. Woodland and Dr. Fardy, the staff at the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Centre and the staff at the Leonard A. Miller Centre, Palliative Unit for your professionalism and compassion.
