Severin Bourgeois

Severin Bourgeois passed away peacefully at the Leonard A. Miller Centre in the presence of family on Saturday, November 12th at 87 years of age.

He was predeceased by his parents; Walter and Anita (Annette), siblings: Ignatius, Frances, Thaddeus and Eugene, nephew Stephen and his special friend Velma Rodgers.

Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are his children: David, Maria, Kara (Brian) and Katrina. He will be missed by his wonderful grandchild Hugh Ward. Also, leaving to mourn are his siblings: Shirley, Walter (Joc) and Bernard (Joan), mother of his children Mary, sister-in-law Hanne, brother-in-law Dennis Gillis, nieces and nephews: Annette, Claire, Catherine, Bettina, Erin, Monique, Marie, Sheilagh, Dennis, John Hugh and many other family and friends.

He was wise, witty, resilient and always positive. A man of many talents; he built a house, furniture, a boat, a computer, rebuilt cars and many other things. He had a head for math and became an accountant, a heart for science and invention and his fingers danced across the accordion even though he had two left feet!

He had fond memories of growing up in Kippens and loved to tell these stories. He will be remembered as a kind and gentle man who was devoted to his family; always imparting his wisdom to his children and grandson and setting an example of how to live life to the fullest until the very end. He never forgot to tell his children that he loved them. We love you too, Dad.

Many thanks to Admiral’s Coast Personal Care Home who made his short stay very enjoyable. Thanks also to the palliative care units in Carbonear General Hospital and the Miller Centre who helped make his last days happy and peaceful. 

At Severin’s request, cremation has taken place. Resting at Dunphy’s Funeral Home, Holyrood. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 16th from 2:00 pm - 8:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am on Thursday, November 17th at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Holyrood with inurnment to follow at a later date.

If friends so desire, donations in Severin’s may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
