Rosemary Butt Obituary

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the Butt and Lewis families announce the peaceful passing of Rosemary at St. Clare's Mercy Hospital, St. John's on Friday, July 5th, 2024.

She was predeceased by her husband W. Clarence Butt, loving and devoted parents; Timothy and Elizabeth (nee Whelan) Lewis, grandmothers; Mary Alice Whelan and Rose Lewis.

Left with fond and precious memories are her pride and joys, her children: daughter Chelsea Butt (Ryan) and sons; Shane Butt, Christopher Butt and William Butt (Kaitlyn), grandchildren, whom she adored and treasured; Connor McConnell, her pudd-gin, Cordelia Butt, her cupcake, Timothy Butt, her bumblebee and Daniel Butt, her little leprechaun. Her beloved sister Rolayne Lewis-Bartlett (Joseph) and doting brothers: Michael Lewis (Pamela), John Lewis, Stan Lewis (Jillian) and Gary Lewis (Catherine), nieces: Lindsey Bartlett, Meghan Bartlett, Victoria Lewis and Rhonda Hayes, nephews: Corey Lewis, Jake Bartlett, Anthony Lewis, Joshua Lewis, Jason Lewis and Rick Hayes, as well as a very large circle of extended family and friends.

Mom cherished her family. She adored her children as they were her greatest accomplishment, and even more so her grandbabies. As much as she treasured the title of mom, nanny was the highest title she held so dear. Rosemary was the light of any space she entered. She always brought cheer, smiles and laughter. She had a way to always find the joy and good in any person or situation and taught us to always look to and for the positive. Mom always left an impactful and memorable impression on anyone who crossed her path. She was a social butterfly, with the ability to make friends wherever she went. She was very committed to her community and was well-known to the vast majority of those within the community. Mom was a strong, independent, dedicated hard worker, who never turned away from work and always did so with a smile. She faithfully volunteered throughout her children’s lifetime, whether it be with the schools when needed or throughout various ventures within the community or church. If she felt she was needed she would find a way to be there. mom lived a life without selfishness and would offer her support and assistance in any way she could help. She loved to walk and would only stop for tea and a chat with a long list of friends along the way. She certainly left an impact and we take solace in the fact we know she will be loved and missed by all her family, friends and community. There are so many who have loving memories of mom, we know she will continue to prosper in spirit.

We cannot express enough, our most sincere and heartfelt appreciation for the compassionate and caring team from the St. Clare's Mercy Hospital, ICU over the past several months. The care, kindness and compassion they expressed for not just mom but the entire family will never be forgotten. In true Rose fashion, she became known and loved by the entire staff. On a daily basis, there wasn't a single passing staff member that wouldn't make it a point to say hello and check in. We will forever give all the team our gratitude.
