It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Richard "Melvin" Doyle at the Carbonear General Hospital on Saturday, May 2, 2026.
Melvin was Predeceased by his infant son Paul, Parents; Gregory and Angela Doyle, parents-in-law; Edward and Elizabeth Mason, brothers: Robert, Patrick (Marcella) and Adrain (Gloria), his sister Mary, brothers-in-law; Clarence and Gordon Mason, sisters-in-law: Philomena (Thomas), Geraldine (Harvey) Rose, Lorraine (Robert), Ann and Geraldine.
Left to celebrate his life and carry his memory in their hearts are his wife of 70 years, Gabriel (Mason), sons: Wayne (Nancy), Linus (Shirley), Gary ( Leeanne), daughters; Linda and Kim (Damian), grandchildren: Robert, Pamela, Patricia, William, Sarah, Caitlin, Liam, Kyle, Marinia, Natasha, Justin, Paul and Edward, 16 great-grandchildren as well as a circle of other relatives and friends.
Melvin was born and raised in Middle Arm, Avondale where he met the love of his life, made and home and raised their family. As a young man Melvin had a passion for music and the outdoors. His passion for the outdoors lead him to a 30 plus year career with the Agriculture Farm on Dock Ridge in Avondale. He had a strong faith, caring deeply for his community and church, dedicating his time, knowledge, humour and good spirit throughout his life to Assumption Parish throughout his life. Melvin joined the Knights of Columbus where he was a 4th degree Member of the Cabot Council.

Resting at Dunphy’s Funeral Home, Holyrood. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 7th and Friday May 8th from 1:00 pm - 8:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Assumption Catholic Church, Avondale on Saturday, May 9, 2026 at 11:00 am with cremation to follow. The inurnment will take place at 1:00 pm on Monday, May 11, 2026 at Assumption Cemetery, Avondale.
