Patricia passed peacefully away on September 14, 2022 after a long battle with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis.
She was predeceased by mother Hilda Davis Keough (Hubert) and father Matt Davis, brother Bill Davis (Jean) and sister Peg Lewis (Kevin). Left to mourn are her loving husband of 56 years, Henry J. Hamlyn, sons; Christopher Hamlyn, Michael Hamlyn (Suzanne) and daughter Heather King (John), grandchildren: Liam, Maghee, Keghan, Christopher, Jane and Emma. Also leaving to mourn are sisters; Elaine Dobbin and Maureen Beaton (Cyril), brother Terry Keough (Roberta), brothers-in-law Arthur Hamlyn (Lorraine), David Ewert, Kevin Lewis and sister-in-law Jean Davis, as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Personally, mom’s passions in life were family, friends and her faith. Family always came first no matter if it was her own child or one of her grandchildren, nieces, nephews or siblings. Professionally, mom excelled in the hospitality industry which she came by naturally through a long line of family entrepreneurs. Mom grew up in a family business run by her widowed mother, Hilda. In fact, it was there that she met her husband Harry and his St. John’s friends visiting the famed Holyrood tavern run by a family of beautiful women. Mom and dad married soon after and continued the business tradition. Mom was a successful restauranteur as owner of the Beach Cottage winning the Bells Scotch Award for best restaurant in the province. Mom was a sought after professional in her field running a number of notable businesses including Governors Park and the Lester Hotel. Her love for the industry led her to share her gift through teaching at Compu College and Hospitality NL. Mom’s business legacy lives on through her last establishment, The Station Diner in Holyrood now run by her daughter Heather. Mom’s passion for family and community was evident in her volunteer activities as well; President of the Roncalli Mother’s Club, Beavers, avid church and community leader and matriarch of our family. She loved a good game of cards, a good drink and a fine meal too. Her sisters and family saw to it that she enjoyed those things right up to her last days. We would like to thank Aunt Maureen for relocating from Florida to help mom enjoy her final months. We thank Aunt Elaine for spending a week of nights on the couch at the Miller Centre so mom was never alone. We thank the professional, caring and compassionate staff of the Miller Center that made us all so comfortable there. We thank Dr. Paul Walsh for years of mom’s care and for his personal service to our community. Thank you for all the house calls Dr. Walsh. Thank you to Dr. Azher and Dr. Vidyasankar at St. Clare’s. Thank you to mom’s recent care givers Mabel and Joan and to the respirology professionals at the Health Science Center. A heart felt thank you to all our friends and family for their continued support.
