It is with great sadness and heavy hearts we announce the sudden but peaceful passing of Michael Joseph Hannon, age 57, on July 20, 2022, while visiting his beloved hometown of Harbour Main.
Predeceased by his parents Michael (1974) and Theresa (Gorman) (2016) Hannon and parents-in-law George (1979) and Beryl (Topping) (2015) Haines.
Leaving to mourn the love of his life and best friend Nancy, his children Stacey (Colin) Clarke and Michael and their mother Jean, stepson Terry (Tiffany), grandchildren; Rowan, Nathan Taylor and Alex, his broken-hearted sisters; Mary (Tony) Myers, Uriel (Don) MacGillivary and Patsy (Dave) Nolan, Brothers-in-law; Keith (Coletta) Haines and David (Jacqueline) Haines, nieces and nephews: Sarah (Scott) and David (Robyn) Nolan, Holly and Taylor (Kyla) MacGillivary, Kelly (Justin) Myers and great niece Zaya.
Michael (Mick) loved and respected his parents, especially his mother who he visited as often as he could. He shared the respect and love he had for his own mother with his mother-in-law Beryl Haines and helped her in any way he could. He was always willing to help his nephews; Chris and Mark Haines if they needed it and enjoyed the respect and friendship of his brothers-in-law; Keith and David and their families.
Michael (Mick) spent his working life in Toronto in the construction and food industry. His work ethic was second to none. He was a dedicated employee of Redpath Sugar for many years where he was admired and respected.
Michael (Mick) was a kind and gentle person who loved teasing his older sisters who adored him. Always with a smile on his face and a joke on his lips, he never missed their annual gatherings in Newfoundland and Nova Scotia. He enjoyed trouting and ice fishing and as he got older he loved golf (although he swore he never would). Michael (Mick) loved Harbour Main and it’s history and he and Nancy shared a dream of retiring there. He had many friends in Harbour Main and was fortunate to maintain lifelong friendships with Doug Dalton and Jamie Murphy.
Taken too soon. We say our broken-hearted goodbyes until we meet again.
Cremation has taken place as per Michael and Nancy’s wishes. There will be a Private Memorial Service at Dunphy’s Funeral Home, Holyrood on Sunday, July 31, 2022 at 2:00 PM. For those unable to attend, the service will be livestreamed with the link available below. Michael will be laid to rest at a later date with his parents at Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Harbour Main.
Donations in Michael’s memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice or The Gathering Place, if so desired.
