Mary passed away peacefully at the Agnes Pratt Home, St. John’s on Saturday, August 28, 2021 at the wonderful age of 99 years.
She was predeceased by her husband Albert, sons; Gerard & Eugene, parents; James & Susan Davis and siblings: Loretta, Madeline, Harry, Ronald, Frank, Leonard and Philip.
Minnie leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories: her children; Madeline (John) Reichert and Jim (Diane), five grandchildren: Keith, Chris, Craig, Jamie and Jessica, seven great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, many nieces and nephews, as well as a circle of other relatives and friends.
Anyone who knew Minnie (fondly also known as Mom or Nan) knew she had a heart of gold. She was so pleasant to be around and easy to love. She also made sure everyone around her felt loved, and this was done by filling our bellies with comforting meals. Minnie was born on June 7th, 1922 to James and Susan Davis in Colinet. She had 2 sisters and 5 brothers who she spoke about often but it was her mother, "Momma Suz", that she shared the most stories about. She told us that everyone who came to visit her family home while growing up was always welcomed with tea and toast - it was clear that Minnie took after her mother. At a young age Minnie started working at Simmon's store - here she met Albert McDonald. He began to court her soon after and on September 10th, 1944 they got married at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Shortly after they were married they decided to start a family of their own - they had 4 children, Madeline, Eugene, Gerard and Jim who they raised in Colinet. Minnie and Albert lived a happy and comfortable life, fully embracing their Colinet community. They enjoyed time with their friends and family while playing card games and darts, berry picking and dancing. Regardless of any hardship that Minnie faced, her faith was unwavering. She was at her happiest with her family all under one roof, with food on the table, music playing and everyone dancing. She deeply loved all of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and will be missed by us all.
