Mary passed peacefully away, in the presence of her loving family and friends, at her home in Avondale on Sunday, December 1, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. Mary Murray in her 80th year, a member of the Presentation Associates.
She was predeceased by her parents; Walter and Martha Gorman, in-laws; Joseph and Mary Murray, Sarah and James Costello and sister, Marilyn Costello, brothers: Mark (1936), Leo (1998), John (1998) and Alex (2001), and sister Sandra (2009), sister-in-law Doreen (James) Lewis and the lights of her life, Simon Hickey and Renee Walsh.
Left with fond and loving memories are her husband, Clary, of 56 years, brother Paddy (Marie) Gorman of Harbour Main; sister Doreen (Bill) Moore of Avondale; her extended family: Debbie (Gus) Buckle of Chapel’s Cove; Andre (Tracy) Hickey of Cardiff, AB; Camilla (Michael) Tubrett of North Arm. Her two grandchildren, Hayden and Hunter Porter. Sister-in-law Ann Hicks of Avondale. As well as a large number of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and great-great nephews, especially Tracy (Ian) Costello of Avondale; Sherry (Lee) Moore-Hickey of Avondale; Megen McGrath; and Tiffany (Michael Woodford) Moore of Avondale who provided endless love, care and support during the final months of her battle with cancer. Special nephew, Joseph Lewis (Sandi), her childhood friend, Helen LaCour Dalton; her devoted friends, neighbors and care givers, Carol Ann (Joe) Cantwell, Dot (Billy) Costello, Winnie (Ned) Myers, Joan (Dave) Conway, Laurie Lee Laracy, Meghan Doyle, and special cousins Mary Myers and Patsy Nolan (as Mary referred to them “The Wednesday Night Sisters).
A special thank you to her family doctor Dr. H R Lake and the staff at the Dispensary of the Vale of Avoca Medical Clinic, the Oncology and Palliative Care team at the Dr. H Bliss Cancer Clinic and the Eastern Health Community Health Nurses, your professionalism did not go unnoticed. To Father David Joy and Father Michael Barker for providing Pastoral Care during her illness.
Resting at Dunphy’s Funeral Home, Holyrood. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 4th and Thursday, December 5th from 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Assumption Catholic Church, Avondale on Friday, December 6, 2024 at 11:00 am with interment to follow Assumption Cemetery, Avondale.
Flowers are greatly accepted, or donations in her memory may be made to Assumption Parish Cemetery Committee.
