It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Gayland Thorson on Sunday, April 16th, 2023 at Avondale.
He was predeceased by his parents, Gerard and Jennie (nee Antinichuk) Thorson and son Craig Thorson.
Leaving behind to mourn are his wife Rosemary, son Kevin, stepdaughter Christy Wiseman (nee Byrne-O’Brien), step granddaughter Cairly Rose and sister Sheila Abocrombie, brother-in-law Michael, niece Bailey, as well as a circle of other relatives and friends.
Gayland met Rosemary whilst looking for some land by the water in Western Canada. With Rose’s push, he went to Newfoundland to look for property and there, Gayland fell in love with the people and the land. He bought three acres and the happiest years of his life were in Newfoundland building his home and making wonderful friends. I had previously mentioned that Gayland built our house. Well, it was Gayland and his good friend Gerard Trahey and Kia, Gayland's border collie. Gerard said he always knew it was noon because Kia would come, sit and wait for her treat. Always noon! Gayland was so proud to be a part of Newfoundland.
A special thank you to the Avondale Firefighters who were such a great help, to Alice and Kevin Flaherty and all the wonderful people who have phoned or stopped by.
At Gayland’s request, cremation has taken place. There will be a “Spirit of Life” event with information to follow in approximately 3 weeks.
Gayland loved Merle Haggard. Please play Silver Wings sometime when you have a chance, hell, play them all on bust!
