John Hawco Obituary

William John Hawco, known to many as John, passed away in the presence of his loving family on July 26, 2025.  John was predeceased by his first wife Anna (1987), his parents William & Annie Hawco, sisters & brothers-in-law Dorothy & Bernard Power, Catherine & Joseph McGrath, & Clara Grant.

Leaving to mourn are his loving wife Lucy, daughters; Charmaine and Annemarie, sons: Don (Juanita), Dominic (Lynn), Ricky (Sherry), Francis and Charlie Goldsworthy, stepchildren: Maryann (Bill), Curtis (Michelle) and Tammy, several grandchildren & great grandchildren.  John is also survived by his brother & sisters-in-law: Jim (Theresa) Hawco, Paddy & Eileen Power, Violet & John Leonard, Alban Power, Hannah & Chris Greeley, Agnes Power (Gerard Burton), Leo Power (Bern Dooley), Amanda & Nick McGrath, many nieces & nephews.  A long list of friends; to name a few, Pat & Sandi Miller (and family), Bob Ryan, Kev & Marguerite Grace, lifelong friends Webb, Isabelle & Tom Hearn, Gordon & Ann Hearn, Carol Ann Nolan, Mac & Ada Rideout, Whilemena Gosse, Gen Kennedy, Mike Wall (Leduc, AB), and many co-workers with the Department of Highways & the Department of Forestry where he worked as a forestry firefighter until age 72, at which time he then retired.  John left school at the age of 15 to go fishing with his dad & he never stopped working until sickness took over in 2024.  Despite his illness, John remained positive right to the end.

Special thanks to Dr. Walsh, the palliative care team and all the nursing staff who provided outstanding support and guidance to our family.

To the angel sent our way, Carol Ann Myles, who showed up with such compassion and strength during life’s most difficult time, from the start you brought more than just support, you brought heart.  You navigated the delicate balance of care with wisdom, warmth, and a candid, loving sense of humor that lifted the heaviness more than you realize.  Your presence gave us peace and your ability to lighten the moment with a perfectly timed bit of wit, reminded us that love does not leave, even in loss. You treated our loved one with dignity and you treated us like family. That is something that we will never forget!  Thank you for walking alongside us; we are deeply grateful.
