James J. Stone passed away surrounded by his family on June 30th, 2021. He was predeceased by his: parents, Georgina Steele and William Stone, brothers; John (Martha) and Eric (Betty), sisters-in-law; Yvonne, Vivian and Mary and brother-in-law Ed. Jim is lovingly remembered by his wife, Helen (nee Delaney) of 58 years, children; James (Agnes), Leanne (Corey), and Sean (Kelly), grandchildren; Nathan (Chelsea), Kelty (Todd), and Delaney (Sebastian) and great-grandson, Thomas. He is also survived by his brothers; Harry (Joyce), Billy (Stella), Angus and Dan (Helena), sisters; Theresa (Tom) and Margaret and brother-in-law Ray Delaney (Una), sisters-in-law; Helen Delaney (Ned, deceased), and Virginia Delaney (Steve, deceased), many nieces and nephews, as well as a large circle of other relatives and friends.
Jim was born on Bell Island in 1939, moved to Labrador City in 1962. There, he was an active member of the volunteer fire department, the Knights of Columbus (3rd and 4th degree), the Recreation Commission, the winter carnival, Minor and Senior Hockey as a referee, and the Carol Curling Club. He retired from the town of Labrador City in 1998. He and Helen moved to Holyrood in 1999, where they enjoyed retired life and entertained many visitors.
Resting at Dunphy’s Funeral Home, Holyrood. Visitation will be in keeping with Covid-19 Regulations and will take place on Tuesday July 6th, from 2:00 – 4:00 pm and 7:00 -9:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, July 7th at St. Michael’s Catholic Church on Bell Island with inurnment to follow at St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the ALS Society of Canada.
