Helene (nee Philpott) Doyle

On Friday, January 6th, 2023, Helene Doyle of Avondale, passed away peacefully while surrounded by family, in her 87th year. She was predeceased by her devoted husband Frank, parents; Pierce and Johanna Philpott, parents-in-law; Jack and Bride Doyle (nee Curran) and brothers; Leo and Dominic Philpott. Survived by her loving children: Brian, Lloyd (Anne), Sharon (Joe), Harold (Terri), Rhonda (Ezra), Diana (Damian), Barry (Karen), Lisa, Nina (Steve) and Susan (Mark), 22 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and the extended Doyle, Philpott and Curran families.

Originally from Plate Cove East, Bonavista Bay. Helene came to Holyrood on the Avalon as a schoolteacher. Moving to the Gander area, she met Frank, the love of her life, beginning a lifelong journey together. Married in Gambo, then moving to Avondale where Frank and Helene joyfully raised their large family around his parents.

More than just a wonderful wife and mother, Helene was a lifelong volunteer for many organizations and church groups. Serving faithfully for decades with The Knights of Columbus, Royal Canadian Legion, Provincial Command, Avondale Fire Department and Assumption Parish, just to name a few. Helene was the recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal, acknowledging outstanding and exemplary service to her community and organizations. 

A close family friend said “Helene was an amazing person and an incredible mother. The CEO of her household. She and Frank were perfect for each other. Best friends, always. Your family were blessed to be their sons and daughters. She is in the arms of the angels.”

Resting at Dunphy’s Funeral Home, Holyrood. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 11th, 2023 from 1:00 pm – 8:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Assumption Catholic Church, Avondale on Thursday, January 12th, 2023 at 10:30 am with Cremation to follow. For those unable to attend, the service will be livestreamed with the link available below.
