It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Esther Mary “Babe” Devereaux of Avondale. A dear wife, mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully after a brief but courageous battle with cancer, in the presence of her loving family, at the Health Sciences Center on Wednesday, May 29th, 2024 in her 68th year.
Predeceased by her parents; Con and Alice Wall, parents-in-law; Michael and Sarah Devereaux and sister-in-law, Vonnie Wall. Left with fond and loving memories are her husband of 35 years, Greg Devereaux, daughter, Paula Devereaux (Michael Ryan), her pride and joy, newborn granddaughter Sadie Ryan, sisters; Joan (Raymond) Hawco and Janet (Scott) Ryan, brothers: Dennis Wall, Con Wall and Robbie (Lucille) Wall, many nieces and nephews, a large circle of extended family on both the Wall and Devereaux side and many friends.
Esther was born on September 29th, 1955 in Harbour Main. She was fondly known as "Babe". She spent many years in Harbour Main caring for her brothers and sister as well her friends the Furey's. Esther married Greg in 1988 and moved to Avondale. Babe and Greg lived in both Flower's Cove and Marystown. They returned to Avondale where they raised their daughter, Paula, and she cared for her aging mother-in-law. Babe spent much of her time volunteering for various groups within the town especially the Avondale recreation committee. Babe formed many friendships while serving as the recreation committee treasurer for many years. Her greatest joy was spending the last 5 weeks with her new granddaughter Sadie Irene. She enjoyed trouting, berry picking, playing crib, baking bread and making various dishes, especially pea soup. She was a very thoughtful and caring person that would do anything to help anyone.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Doctor Lake, Doctor Hogan, the staff of 4 North B, Health Science emergency and ICU for their professional and compassionate care.
