Ernest "Bud" Linehan Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Ernest Linehan announce his peaceful passing on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at the Health Sciences Centre in St. John’s, Newfoundland, at the age of 78.

Born on January 1, 1947, in Colinet, St. Mary’s Bay, Newfoundland, Ernest was one of twelve children of Ernest and Ida Linehan (née Davis). He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, sibling, uncle, neighbor and friend.

Ernest is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Ann Marie (née Fowler); his five children Andrea (Kevin), Leann (Mark), Janice, Evan (Crystal), and Maria (Craig); twelve grandchildren Jessica (Thomas), Zack, Daniella, Jenna, Siena, Ethan, Lacey, Ella, Dillon, Colton, Skylar, and Paige; and two great-grandchildren (Josie and Theo), all of whom brought him great pride and joy. Ernest was predeceased by parents (Ernest and Ida Linehan), siblings, (Marcella, Gladys, Anne, and Joseph). Left to mourn are his siblings Alicia, Gerald (Jud), Carmel (John), Mildred (Bill), Albert (Eileen), Christina (Harry), Wayne (Tammy) and Junior (Gloria).  He will be fondly remembered by his large extended family members, and the community he so deeply cared for.

Ernest was a proud and longstanding member of the United Association (UA) of Plumbers and Pipefitter Local 740, and in March 2022 received a 50-year Membership Certificate of the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry of the United States and Canada in appreciation of his long-term contribution. Ernest was known for his strong work ethic and love of camaraderie among his fellow tradesmen. He was a true handyman, a “Mr. Fix-It,” and in his retirement loved to putter around - always lending a hand where needed. He loved being outside in the woods, trouting, planting potatoes, berry-picking and having a crowd around at the house for a game of 120’s, or in the shed, aka “Bud’s Bar”, for a time.

Ernest loved his family, his home, and his community. His steady presence, quiet and gentle spirit will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Visitation will take place at Fergus and Fred Linehan Heritage Centre in Colinet on Friday, October 3, from 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Heritage Center on Saturday, October 4, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. followed by an inurnment at Our Lady of Grace Cemetery in Colinet with a reception to follow.
