It is with sadness the Crawley family announces that in the early morning of Sunday, August 22nd, 2021 Ernest Patrick Crawley passed away peacefully in his 76th year at the Health Sciences Centre St. Johns, NL. Ernest lived most of his life in Holyrood, NL and was predeceased by his loving parents Leonard and Marjorie and brother Eugene. Left with loving memories are his children: Charles (Amy), Heather (Joe) and Nicola (Gary), his 3 grandchildren who reside in Calgary: Sydney, Samantha and Cooper Jacques, 8 siblings: Rita Mahoney, Michael Crowley, Eileen Mahoney, Marion Blandford, Linda Crawley, Cynthia Power, Leonard Crawley and Vivian Parrell.
Ernie, as he was called by everyone, retired from the Boilermakers Union Local #203 where he worked as a welder and past executive member to the local. Prior to that he owned and operated an autobody repair business in Holyrood. Ernie loved motorcycles and cars, spending many summers cruising around on his Harley Davidson. He also loved going ‘up in the country’ for moose hunting and trout fishing.
Alzheimer’s Disease took Ernie’s memory and caused his health to decline steadily over the last 10 years. The family is so grateful to the medical staff on unit 4A South of the Health Sciences Centre who showed great kindness and compassion to Ernie during his final days and to the care staff at Chancellor Park for helping Ernie live with comfort and dignity during his final years.
As was his wish, Ernie will be cremated and there will be a Private Mass of Christian Burial, by invitation only, to celebrate his life at Holy Cross Church in Holyrood on Thursday, August 26th, 2021 at 10:30 am with interment to follow in the Crawley family plot at Holy Cross Cemetery, Holyrood. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Alzheimer’s Society of Newfoundland, 835 Topsail Road unit 107, Mount Pearl, NL A1N 3J6 or https://alzheimer.ca/nl/en
