Ellie passed peacefully away at home in the presence of her loving family at the age of 101 years. With a kind word and smile for everyone, Ellie was a lover of life, family, friends and a game of scat at home or the Star of the Sea. Ellie was born in Riverhead, Harbour Grace and lived in Holyrood since 1949 where she watched her community change and grow. She was a regular at her church and well-known in her community; her life revolved around the people who were important to her.
She was predeceased by her husband, Fred, parents; John and Maude Shanahan, daughter, Margie, and sons-in-law; Barry and Bob as well as her siblings: Ned (Josephine), Joe (Bessie), Bob (Betty), Marge (Vincent), Kay (Leo), Chrissie (Wilbur), Isabel (Mike), Nicholas and James. Leaving to mourn her children, Kevin (Judy), Catherine, Betty, Eileen, Elinor, Ronnie, son-in-law Bobby, 10 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Resting at Dunphy’s Funeral Home, Holyrood. Visitation will take place on Monday, April 11th from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm and Tuesday, April 12th from 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 13th, 2022 at 10:30 am from Holy Cross Catholic Church, Holyrood with interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Holyrood.
