Carmel Costello Obituary

Passed peacefully away on October 26th in the comfort of her home, surrounded by the ones who loved and cherished her most, our precious mother, grandmother and sister, Carmel Costello (nee Lewis).

She was predeceased by her husband Len, infant son Brian, parents Stephen and Johanna Lewis, brothers: Pete, Jim, Tom and Kevin, sisters: Eleanor, Rite, Betty, Marg and Therese and deceased members of the Costello, Lewis and Meaney families.

Left to mourn the loss of this great woman are her children: Eugene (Wendy), Sis (Fred), Wally (Carrie), Joanne (Ronnie) and Kelly Ann (Harold), grandchildren: Patrick, whom she fondly called Mick (Megan), Kayla (Justin), Ryan, Chantille (Mitch), Brianna, Dawson and Ty, great-grandchildren: Landon, Griffin, Mason, Maddie, Cameron and Kayden, her sisters; Dot (Ed) and Angela, as well as a large number of nieces, nephews, cousins, members of the Costello family and friends. Mom will also be missed by her furry little buddy, Theo, who always gave her the best kisses.

Mom grew up in a family of 12 in Brigus Junction before laying down roots in Avondale with her husband Len. They went on to raise 5 children together. Mom never veered away from hard work. After spending many years at home taking care of her children, she went to work in fish plants and eventually retired from Woodford’s Comfort Manner. Her family always came first and she always felt the need to take care of people. She was always up for a game of bingo, darts and cards with family and friends. Mom had a wide circle of friends and will be missed by many. She had an unwavering faith in the church and attended services regularly. Mom found strength and conviction in the power of prayer. When she became ill this past year, her only wish was to remain in the home that she loved dearly. Through the devotion and dedication of her children, her sister Dot, and our 2 beautiful home care workers whom we are so blessed to have in our lives, her niece, Audrey, and friend, Martina, we were able to fulfill that wish. We are also grateful to Dr. Lake for his medical and compassionate care that he provided Mom up to her final days.

A special thank you to Father Thomas for his visits with Mom and his continued spiritual guidance to her and her family, especially on the eve of Mom’s passing.
