Augustus (Gus) Flannigan passed away from Acute Myeloid Leukemia at 81 years of age. Gus, who spent his life caring for others, was blessed in his last few weeks to be cared for by his extended family, particularly Theresa & Tom Hawco, Gerard & Carol Ann Slaney, George Flannigan, Kim & Wanda Flannigan.
A beloved husband, father, grandfather, teacher and politician. Gus believed that there must be a better world. He found these policies within the NDP Party, so he gave up his time from work and family to run three times. Even though he never won, Gus managed to convince more than a few. He faced his last days with the same gentle manner that he faced life. With humility and gratitude, he reflected that everyone has an expiry date and he simply had a better idea of his.
Left to mourn are his immediate family: wife Geraldine of 50 years, daughters; Natasha and Nadine (Jonathan Lowes), grandchildren; Nathaniel and Abigayle, his brother George Flannigan, sister Annie Hawco, his extended Slaney and Flannigan family as well as numerous friends.
At Gus’ request, cremation has taken place. The family will receive visitors at Dunphy’s Funeral Home, Holyrood on Friday, June 16th from 2:00 pm - 8:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Assumption Catholic Church, Avondale on Saturday, June 17th, 2023 at 10:00 am with interment to follow at St. Thomas of Villanova Cemetery, Topsail.
To honour Gus’ memory, please do an act of kindness.
