Archibald B. Gillingham Obituary

It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the passing of Archibald Bruce Gillingham of Brigus Junction on Wednesday, January 4th, 2023 at Carbonear Hospital with his family by his side.
Arch was predeceased by his parents Howard and Violet Gillingham (nee Nippard) sister Pauline (Eldred) Gillingham, parents-in-law Harvey and Rita Rose and sisters-in-law; Betty Gillingham, Jackie Gillingham and Evelyn Wade.
Leaving to mourn with wonderful memories are his soulmate and best friend of 53 years, wife Mary, loving sons; Don (Andrea), Shawn (Jackie) and Michael (Penny),  brothers; Brian (Daphne), Ron (Tracy), Gwen (Myra), Gonzo (Glennis), Ern (Evelyn), Morley (Olive) and Kerry (Bonnie), sisters; Patsy (Issac), Debbie (Gary), Marie (Ron) and Jackie (Woody),  precious grandchildren; Meghan (Brandon), Colin (Brittany), Kelsey (John) and Melanie (Michael), two cherished great-grandchildren Carlie and Cash, who were his pride and joy.
A wonderful, hard-working family man, Arch was loved by everyone who knew him.  Some special people in his life were his “daughter” Juanita, loving daughter-in-law Brenda and his homecare workers Sandy Rose and Audrey Byrne.  Throughout Arch’s lifetime he had many close and special friends, Jeffrey and Jane Steele who he and Mary enjoyed spending time with skidooing and a ‘boil up’ in the woods, Heather Edstrum (deceased Gerry), Carl Burton (deceased Lorraine), Bob Petten and Sheila Lewis, Dave and Ruby Salter, Bert and Hazel Long, Ed and Dot Delaney and Fred and Betty Batten. Arch also had a large circle of special nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends who will always lovingly remember him.
Arch spent his lifetime in the construction industry both on Union sites and his own sites when he took on a new project.  He built many cabins and one special project he took on was for Jane and Jeffery Steele, with no drawings he made Jane’s dream become a reality, a place that Jane, Suzanne, Marg and their family and friends still enjoy to this day.
Arch was a proud member of the Carpenters Union Local 579 for over 38 years and performed the role of Shop Steward on many occasions. He was everyone’s handy-man and could turn his hand to pretty much anything he put his mind to.
Resting at Dunphy’s Funeral Home, Holyrood. Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 7th and Sunday, January 8th, 2023 from 2:00 pm – 8:00 pm.
