It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mom, Agnes Hawco, on Wednesday, September 25, 2024 at The Health Sciences Center, St. John’s at the age of 97 years.
She was predeceased by her parents, Ellen (nee Cousins) and Richard Kelly, husband Thomas Hawco, sons, Edward and Don, daughter, Helen and grandson Bradley.
Left to mourn her passing are her two daughters; Carol Ann (Greg) Walsh and Mary (Wayne) Spencer, sons: Tom (Theresa), Kevin (Staish) and Gerard (Shirley), 19 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. Aggie is also survived by her two sisters; Mary (George) Gushue and Elizabeth “Beth” (Bill) Woodford and daughters-in-law; Mena and Marion, many nieces and nephews, as well as a large circle of other relatives and friends.
Agnes Mary “Aggie” (nee Kelly) Hawco was born on January 4,1927 in Holyrood to Ellen (Cousins) and Richard Kelly of Holyrood, NL. She was married to Thomas Hawco of Holyrood. They lived for almost 20 years in Buchans, NL where her husband worked with ASARCO. After his passing, they returned to the east coast where Aggie had the monumental task of turning a summer home into a full-time home on a very limited income.
Despite being widowed at the age of 43, her love of life and laughter brought great happiness to those whom she bore and met in her life. She extended a helping hand to those who were in need expecting nothing in return. A game of cards and a “carry-on” was right up her alley.
Resting at Dunphy's Funeral Home, Holyrood. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 26 from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm and Friday, September 27 from 1:00 pm - 8:00 pm. Mass of Christion Burial will be celebrated at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at 10:30 am with interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Holyrood.
A special thank you to the staff of Woodford's Comfort Manner and the Health Sciences Center who made mom’s stay and our visiting a very welcoming and compassionate one.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in her memory be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
